Dear Windsor Unified School District Parents/Guardians,

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Windsor Unified School District (WUSD) staff, it is my pleasure to welcome your child(ren) and family to a most positive 2018-2019 school year!

As I move into my third year with the WUSD, and the second year as Superintendent, I continue to be impressed with the level of pride and commitment that our community holds for our schools and the continued accomplishments/success of our students and staff.

WUSD serves approximately 5,200 students and takes pride in providing educational opportunities for students to advance through the grade levels together in a safe, caring and supportive learning environment.

I believe that by working together, we can continue to make WUSD a place where children learn, grow, thrive, find and/or develop their passion, talents, interests and aspirations.

When we place great value in supporting students in collaboration we are able to achieve so much, including the following accomplishments and current priorities (as identified in our Local Control Accountability Plan {LCAP} process and/or our Board Goals):

  • Focused instruction and academic intervention to support continued Math and English Language Arts proficiency
  • Continued Bond Measure F construction and facilities improvements (including safety improvements at all sites, repairs to existing roofs and gutters at various sites, and projects being completed this year; new bleachers, bathrooms, and turf at WHS, a new library building at BES, and a number of classroom and playground improvements throughout the WUSD)
  • Continued training for educators and programs (including Responsive Classroom, Soul Shoppe, Restorative/Community Building Circles, Big Picture Learning, etc.) to support all students (TK-12) with Social/Emotional Learning and restorative practices.
  • Continue training and support for implementation of adopted standards-based curriculum and instruction.
  • Services to continue strengthening college/career readiness (A-G requirements attainment)
  • Phased – in implementation of the WUSD Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Plan
  • Continued efforts to provide parent/guardian education in areas of need, based on parent/guardian interest and feedback

I look forward to continuing to work with our Board of Trustees, our certificated teachers and staff, our classified support staff, our school and department administrators/leaders, our parents/guardian groups and our local organizations to further develop and realize progress and opportunities, on behalf of our students. The dedication of the above stakeholders will result in continued refinement and delivery of rigorous and engaging academic programs and opportunities in reinforcement of the arts, technology, athletics, and various areas of enrichment. I encourage your involvement in our schools and the many activities in which our students participate.

We look forward to meeting and continuing to work with our students, beginning on Thursday, August 16, 2018, the first day of instruction. For additional information and reminders, please check with your schools and our website: www.wusd.org . Please look for upgrades to our communication technology coming this Fall (including the new WUSD smartphone app). Again, welcome!

Most sincerely,

Brandon Krueger, Ed.D.
